Accessing and using arttrailproject.org

As a visitor to this site (arttrailproject.org) or a registered user, you can expect any data you share to be held safely, securely and used fairly and legally. This privacy notice outlines how we store and use your information in a respectful way and the standards you can expect from us.

Cookies

We believe in true privacy! Unlike most websites, we only use a single functional cookie to maintain the session state (whether you're logged in or not - that's the one that starts SSESS). We do not use Google Analytics or other privacy violating cookies to track your activity on arttrailproject.org which is why you won't see any annoying cookie warnings when you access our site.

Website permissions

When you first access a virtual art trail on our site, you will need to allow the camera, GPS and accelerometer permissions when you are asked so that virtual art trails works correctly. When you enable these permissions, it allows us to use the camera on your device to show virtual works of art in a specific location. It is not possible for us to track your location or to track your position other than locally on your device for the purpose of rendering the 3D artwork.

Third Party services

We use third party services from Google Maps that may use their own cookies and store them on your computer, but they are stored on Google, not arttrailproject.org.

Security and performance

Arttrailproject.org uses industry standard security including 256 bit SSL encryption, strong passwords and ISO/IEC 27018:2019 secure data centres located in the United Kingdom. We process the IP addresses of visitors to the website to help us deliver this service.

Contacting us

If you contact us via our contact form, this is transferred to us securely via email. Your contact details will remain in our email system for the purpose of managing your enquiry and will then be discarded when you are satisfied with the resolution.

Registration and contribution

Optionally, you may choose to register with artrailproject.org to help us build the directory of art trails, track your progress or add a rating or review. All your contributions including text, photos and images are attributed to your user account which may contain personal information you choose to share publicly via a profile page.

Deleting your user account

If you no longer want to hold an account with Art Trail Project, you have the right to be forgotten. After you are logged in, you can click the "cancel account" button on your user account page. This deletes all the information we hold about you, and anything you have contributed is assigned to anonymous.

This privacy notice does not cover the links to other websites and services. We encourage you to read the privacy statements on the other websites and services you visit.

Changes to this privacy notice

We keep our privacy notice under regular review. This privacy notice was last updated in January 2023.
