About Barton and Barrow Claypits Heritage Trail

With views of the Humber Bridge, the trail starts at the Water's Edge Visitor Centre and tells the story of the brick and tile industry between Barton-upon-Humber and Barrow-upon-Humber, featuring painted tiles on the ground that tell the story.

Clay from the banks of the Humber Estuary was extracted to create tiles. As the industry declined, the claypits filled with water and became an important site for wildlife.
