About Popeye and Friends Character Trail

Chester, Illinois is the home of lovable sailor, Popeye! Immortalised in bronze and granite statues, the sculpture trail currently consists of nearly 20 statues but has a new one added each year. Sculptures include the villain Bluto, love-interest Olive Oil and of course the famous sailor himself, Popeye.

A statue of Popeye was first erected in 1977 in the hometown of his creator Elzie C. Segar at the Segar Memorial Park. Since then, the Popeye and Friends Character Trail was established as a quirky and fun tribute to the beloved cartoon character.
